Some of the best burgers can be found in local eateries tucked away from the hustle and bustle of packed city streets inside hidden hotspots.

Cheapism compiled a list of the "best hole-in-the-wall burger joints" across the U.S., the small but mighty eateries that might not be as "glamorous" as the highly-touted chains and popular establishments but that still pack a major punch with a bite you'll be thinking about for many meals to come.

According to the site, the top spot in all of North Carolina is Al's Burger Shack. The burgers at this Chapel Hill restaurant are packed with flavor, but the menu has plenty of other incredible options as well. Al's Burger Shack has a few locations. Find your nearest one by visiting the restaurant's website.

Here's what Cheapism had to say about this beloved hidden gem:

"University of North Carolina students know where to head: Al's Burger Shack, just off campus. There's room for only a few counter seats inside, so the line is often out the door, especially since TripAdvisor said Al's had the best burger in the country. Burgers get creative: The Kenny J has Cheerwine barbecue sauce and spicy pimento cheese."
