Authorities have identified the gunman who opened fire on a Buffalo, New York grocery store Saturday (May 14), killing at least 10 people as 18-year-old Payton Gendron.

According to NBC News, Gendron was arraigned in court Saturday night on one first-degree murder count after being arrested at the scene of the Tops Friendly Supermarket located off of Jefferson Avenue.

A manifesto allegedly written and posted online on Thursday (May 12) by the shooter was filled with white supremacist ideology, including the often peddled "great replacement" theory which falsely claims a political scheme is underway to replace white Americans with nonwhite people through immigration and interracial marriage.

The document also detailed specific plans to carry out violence against Black people, the outlet said.

The news outlet reported that Gendron lived in Conklin, New York –– nearly three and a half hours away from Buffalo. The document also stated that Buffalo was chosen for the shooting because it has the highest Black population in the shooter's vicinity.

Police confirmed that 13 people were shot at the store and that 11 of them were Black. Law enforcement officials said they are working to authenticate the manifesto.

"We are aware of the manifesto allegedly written by the suspect and we're working to definitively confirm that he is the author," a law enforcement official told NBC News.

Gendron is being held without bail and a felony hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning (May 19).
